How We Met – Double Date, Reality TV, and Bowling
Hmmm…where to start? You know those crazy, unbelievable chance meetings you only see in Best Friend RomCom movies? Yeah, that’s pretty much us…
It all started back in 2006. We were both engaged, planning the most important day of our lives, and honestly not looking for any new friends. We both had enough on our plate at the time. But as fate would have it, we were both about to be in for a surprise.
It started with a “great idea”. You know, those “great ideas” your husband (fiancé) has? (We know great ideas from husbands are cliche…bear with us) It’s that kind of “great idea” you secretly (or not so secretly) want to smack him in the head and ask him, “Why would you ever think that would be a good idea?” Well, that’s what we had on our hands when our now husbands, and lifelong childhood friends, recommended the dreaded “we’re best friends so I’m sure you’ll be friends” double date.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Men and their “great ideas”.
And that’s when the questions started.
”What if I don’t like her?”
“What if we have nothing in common?”
“I can’t believe you already agreed to it without checking with me!”
“And we’re going bowling after dinner!!!!!”
Ugh. If we hadn’t already paid the deposits and invited everyone to the weddings we could have killed them. Talk about dragging out the drudgery…Dinner would be enough pain for anyone to bear.
End scene, drop curtain, Intermission. (Deep breath, deep breath)
And then THE night came. We calmed ourselves, dolled up, and headed out to meet our new “mystery” friend. Tensions were high, and nerves were running amuck. We said our hello’s, introduced ourselves, and took our seats opposite each other in the booth. Of course our husbands were already “chumming” around, hugging, and all that silly stuff guys do. And then it happened…
The sky’s opened up, light shown down from above, and a friendship was forged…over Laguna Beach and burgers. Who would have thunk it? We were like twins, separated at birth. A few minutes into our conversation and our significant others faded away into nothing more than the people getting the tab.
We’ve covered a LOT of ground together since that fateful day – 2 weddings, 3 apartments, 4 houses, 4 kids, and 6 job changes, but we know the best is yet to come!
So why did two friends from a fateful meeting decide to start a blog? Well, we want to encourage those other REAL friends our there through sharing our experiences, thoughts, emotions, and perspectives on this crazy, blessed little moment called LIFE.
And the rest they say…is yet to come.
